NILES Homes for Kids recognizes the efforts of two groups

Donations have been used to buy car seats, hold Christmas parties and take children to amusement parks.
NILES -- Homes for Kids has recognized two Mahoning Valley recreational and family-oriented clubs for their efforts to brighten the lives of less fortunate youngsters.
The agency presented "Heroes for Children" awards to Xtreme Riders snowmobile club, which meets in North Jackson, and Shorty's Sportsmen's Club of Warren.
The snowmobile club is composed of families from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, and the Sportsmen's from Trumbull and southern Mahoning.
Donations from those groups in recent years allowed Homes for Kids to buy car seats to transport tots to and from appointments, hold Christmas parties for the children and take them on annual trips to an amusement park.
The wood and metal plaques recognizing the efforts of the Xtreme Riders and the Sportsmen's Club are designed to hang in club meeting rooms.
Homes for Kids is a specialized/treatment foster care agency designed to handle the worst cases of child neglect and abuse. It has about 110 children under its wing at any time.
The agency is also certified by the state for mental health treatment.
Those mental health services are available to any child throughout the area.
They are not restricted to foster clients.
