Homicide in Warren
WARREN -- Detectives are investigating a homicide that took place around 12:30 a.m. today.
A man was found shot once in the head outside 941 Oak Street S.W., police said.
Police identified him as Antonio J. Daniels, 22, of 1870 6th St. S.W.
Rape charge in Niles
NILES -- A city man facing a rape charge is free on $250,000 bond.
Mark A. Heilman, 40, of West Park Avenue, was arraigned in municipal court Tuesday on a single count. A second charge was dismissed.
An 18-year-old woman reported to police that Heilman physically and sexually abused her over the past five years.
Reports did not list the number of assaults, nor were specific dates given.
The woman said she is also concerned about a 6-year-old girl whom Heilman has contact with.
Heilman is to appear at a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. June 25.
Airport bookkeeping
VIENNA -- Mahoning County Auditor George Tablack has approved a bookkeeping change for Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport that could help airport creditors get paid more quickly.
The Western Reserve Port Authority board, which runs the airport, was told this morning the auditor will now allow the airport's annual budget to include promised subsidies from Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
Previously, the funds could not be budgeted until actually received by the port authority. They still can't be spent until actually received, said interim airport director Steve Bowser.
Some vendors have been waiting since December for payment of their bills, he said.
Car is reported stolen
WARREN -- A 23-year-old Jefferson man told police two men stole his car when he pulled over on Tod Avenue to check a mechanical problem about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
He said one man had a knife.
Meeting in Weathersfield
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township trustees will meet in special session at 9 a.m. Friday to ratify a three-year contract with police who are members of the Ohio Patrolman's Benevolent Association.
The new contract runs to June 30, 2006.
Trustees also will address any other business that comes before them Friday.
Warren home burns
WARREN -- City firefighters are investigating a blaze that caused an estimated $35,000 worth of damage to a home at 1286 Atlantic Street N.E.
The fire broke out around 2:38 a.m. Tuesday.
Christopher Bower, the owner of the two-story frame house, was not home.
Lt. Al Brown injured his right knee while fighting the fire.
Officials noted there were two smoke detectors in the home, but neither was in working condition.
Antique car show coming
LIBERTY -- Liberty Arms Assisted Living Residence and Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club will host their annual public antique car show from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Liberty Arms parking lot, 1353 Church Hill-Hubbard Road.
There will also be a lawn concert from 2 to 3 p.m. featuring Donna Wolfe, who will perform sing-a-longs and patriotic music.

4-year-old driver
CAMPBELL -- Four-year-old Mychael Claytor grabbed the keys to his grandfather's car Monday night, started it and drove it across the street into a neighbor's garage, pushing the neighbor's car out the back of the garage, police said.
The boy's mother, Mercedes Bryant of Penhale Avenue, told police she was visiting with a neighbor at the time.
Police found the neighbor's car behind the garage and the grandfather's car in the garage.
There was damage to the cars, the garage and the neighbor's back porch.
Newton Falls court hours
NEWTON FALLS -- Beginning June 30, Newton Falls Municipal Court's hours will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The hours continue to Aug. 29 at which time the court will announce any other changes.
The pay stations will accept payments after 4 p.m.
