Devil Rays 11, Yankees 2Yankees 10, Devil Rays 2
NEW YORK -- David Wells pitched a seven-hitter, and Jason Giambi and Ruben Sierra each had three hits for New York in the second game. Tampa Bay won the opener 11-2. Wells (9-2) allowed two runs -- one earned -- in his third complete game this year and 51st of his career. In the opener, Jeff Weaver (3-6) was roughed up for six runs and 10 hits in five innings.
Royals 14, Twins 7
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Ken Harvey had two hits and three RBIs in a team-record 12-run sixth inning for Kansas City. Harvey was 4-for-5 with three doubles and five RBIs. Raul Ibanez and Mike Sweeney each had two RBIs in the record-breaking inning that included 16 plate appearances.
Red Sox 7, White Sox 4
CHICAGO -- Manny Ramirez hit a three-run homer, and John Burkett recovered from a shaky start. Burkett (5-3) gave up four straight doubles to start the game and was in a 3-0 hole before recording an out. After that he was almost unhittable, retiring 18 straight at one point. He gave up five hits in 6 2/3 innings, struck out a season-high nine and walked one. Frank Thomas broke his bat on home plate in the sixth inning after he was called out for a second time on an inside pitch. He was ejected when he argued with home plate umpire Eric Cooper as he took the field for the top of the seventh.
Mariners 8, Angels 4
SEATTLE -- Bret Boone had a grand slam -- his 19th homer of the season -- and five RBIs, and Ichiro Suzuki homered twice. Brad Fullmer, Darin Erstad, Garret Anderson and Tim Salmon hit solo homers off Ryan Franklin (6-4), who has allowed an AL-high 18 homers.
Athletics 4, Rangers 3
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Miguel Tejada homered while playing in his 500th straight game as Oakland won its fourth straight. The A's winning streak is their longest since a season-best six consecutive from April 24-30. Tejada's 500 straight games played is the longest active streak in the majors, and his homer off Victor Santos (0-2) in the sixth inning gave Oakland a 4-2 lead and chased Santos.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Mets 5, Marlins 0
MIAMI -- Rookie Jae Seo won his fourth straight start and Jeromy Burnitz and Ty Wigginton homered for New York, which was involved in a one-hitter for the third straight game. The Mets have never thrown a no-hitter in their 42-year history, but Seo, David Weathers and Armando Benitez combined to allow just one Tuesday. Steve Trachsel pitched a complete-game one-hitter at Anaheim on Sunday, and Florida rookie Dontrelle Willis threw a one-hitter against the Mets on Monday night.
Reds 2, Cubs 1, 10 innings
CINCINNATI -- Sean Casey's RBI double with two outs in the 10th inning gave Cincinnati the win. The Reds lead the majors with 18 wins in their last at-bat -- more than half their total of 35. The Cubs wasted a chance in the ninth, when Alex Gonzalez reached second on a walk from Scott Williamson (4-2) and a sacrifice. He roamed too far on Tom Goodwin's soft liner to Larkin at shortstop and was doubled up.
Phillies 5, Braves 4
PHILADELPHIA -- David Bell singled in pinch-runner Nick Punto in the bottom of the ninth. Jimmy Rollins went 4-for-4 with two RBIs for the Phillies, who have won two of their last three. Turk Wendell (1-1) pitched two shutout innings to pick up his first win in two years and his first for Philadelphia.
Astros 4, Diamondbacks 3
HOUSTON -- Jeff Kent hit a tie-breaking RBI single in the eighth inning and Octavio Dotel earned his team-leading sixth victory as Houston snapped a four-game losing streak. Oscar Villareal (4-4) hit Craig Biggio with a pitch to start the eighth and Morgan Ensberg sacrificed him to second. After Jeff Bagwell was intentionally walked, Kent lined a single to left field to score Biggio with the go-ahead run.
Cardinals 12, Brewers 3
MILWAUKEE -- Garrett Stephenson won his first road game in three seasons and Albert Pujols, Miguel Cairo and Jim Edmonds homered for St. Louis. Stephenson (4-5) hadn't won in 11 straight road starts dating to Sept. 1, 2000, when he beat Pittsburgh.
Dodgers 4, Giants 1
LOS ANGELES -- Kevin Brown won his ninth straight decision despite leaving with a groin injury, and Paul Lo Duca went 4-for-4 in extending his hitting streak to 24 games. The win was the seventh straight for the Dodgers. Brown (10-1) allowed seven hits and one run in six innings. He joined Seattle's Jamie Moyer as the only 10-game winners in the majors. Brown left with a strained left groin after allowing a leadoff double to Edgardo Alfonzo in the seventh.
Padres 4, Rockies 3, 8 innings
DENVER -- Ryan Klesko homered twice and drove in three runs, and San Diego survived another late rally to beat Colorado in a game called after eight innings because of rain. Jake Peavy (6-5) limited the damage in a shaky fourth inning for his second straight win for San Diego, which has won three straight games for just the third time this season. Colorado managed a late rally for the second straight night, but didn't get a final at-bat after heavy rain began falling at the start of the ninth. The game was called after an 82-minute wait, giving Jay Witasick -- who got two outs in the eighth -- his first save.
