Ammonia leak at business
AUSTINTOWN -- Workers were evacuated from United Freezer and Storage on North Meridian Road because of an ammonia leak Wednesday night.
There were no injuries. Reports do not say how many employees were evacuated. Firefighters called to the business around 11:30 p.m. said the odor of ammonia was noticeable from the road.
The ammonia was leaking from equipment in the basement of the business. The workers were allowed back in around 2:30 a.m. today.
Guilty of tampering
YOUNGSTOWN -- Christopher A. Gasbarro, 26, Struthers pleaded guilty Wednesday in Mahoning County Common Pleas court to tampering with evidence and receiving stolen property. He is accused of destroying a VCR in January that had been stolen from the home of a Struthers resident.
As part of his plea agreement, Gasbarro is to testify against 42-year-old William Harrison, Struthers, who is awaiting trial in common pleas court on 34 counts of burglary. Authorities say Harrison went on a burglary spree earlier this year, breaking into homes on Youngstown's South Side and in many of the city's suburbs.
Youngstown men indicted
CLEVELAND --Two Youngstown residents were indicted by a federal grand jury, said Gregory A. White, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.
A three-count indictment was returned against Jamal Pusey, 24, West Princeton Avenue.
He is charged with possession with the intent to distribute more than 10 grams of crack cocaine, possessing a firearm to use in drug trafficking and being a felon in possession of a firearm after he was convicted of carrying a concealed weapon.
Valentino Molina Jr., 48, Miller Street, is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. He was prohibited from possessing a firearm because he was convicted of domestic violence in 1998.
Felonious-assault charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 30-year-old Youngstown woman faces a felonious-assault charge after being accused of firing five shots at an 18-year-old man, police said.
Sharon Buckner, East Philadelphia Avenue, got into an argument with Jermaine Hamlett, Southern Boulevard in Youngstown, who was in a car near her home at 6:55 p.m. Wednesday waiting to pick up a couple of friends, police said.
Buckner hit Hamlett in his head and neck, and then got a 9mm semiautomatic handgun from her home, police said.
Police said Buckner, who fired five shots, told them she wasn't trying to hit Hamlett.
Buckner also was charged with a misdemeanor count of assault. She was taken to the Mahoning County jail.
Man stabbed in face
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 28-year-old Youngstown man was stabbed four times in the face on Elm Street. Derrick Wallace, South Garland Avenue, received 25 stitches behind his left ear and along his jawbone as a result of the stabbing, which occurred about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Wallace told police he was stabbed by his cousin.
Man robbed, shot in leg
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 31-year-old Youngstown man was shot in the leg Wednesday while attempting to buy marijuana, police said.
Gregory Parisi, Idora Avenue, told police he was picked up by a man he knows only as "Cuzz," from whom he has previously bought marijuana.
Parisi told police that Cuzz and three other people he didn't know drove him to High Street, where an argument broke out.
Parisi said Cuzz pulled out a handgun, robbed him of $10 and during a brief struggle, shot him in the left leg about 3:15 p.m.
Parisi was then driven to Mill Creek Park, near Lake Glacier, where he was pushed out of the car. He called his girlfriend for help.
Parisi's wound was treated at the Beeghly Medical Center in Boardman.
He was transported to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for more treatment.
