Sachire winsdoubles title
VENTNOR CITY, N.J. -- Ryan Sachire, a Canfield native, and Tripp Phillips of North Carolina topped Brandon Coupe and Paul Goldstein, 7-5, 6-3 for the doubles title in the Atlantic City Open tennis tournament.
A USTA Professional Circuit event, the Atlantic City Open was a new event for 2003.
This week Sachire will be playing singles matches and doubles with Huntley Montgomery in a tournament in Montreal.
Youth clinic
HUBBARD -- Pine Lakes Golf Club will hold a three-day junior golf clinic June 24-26 for youths ages 7-15.
PGA golf professional Chris Carfangia, a Hubbard native who has returned to the area, will conduct the clinic along with PGA pro and Pine Lakes' director of golf, Dave Coller.
The cost is $29 per youth. The 7-9 age group will be held from 9-10 a.m., 10-12 age group from 10-11 a.m. and 13-15 group from 11 a.m. until noon.

Boardman's Beachychooses Geneva
BOARDMAN -- Boardman senior Bridget Beachy will continue her basketball career at Geneva College.
Beachy, who earned 12 letters at Boardman, graduated with a 3.9 grade point average and was a member of National Honor Society.
She earned an Academic Excellence scholarship along with a basketball award at Geneva, which competes in NAIA Division II.
Seybert to playat Milligan
COLUMBIANA -- Columbiana senior Brett Seybert will continue his baseball career at Milligan (Tenn.) College.
Seybert holds several school records, including the school's career strikeout record of 250. He broke Bob Macland's record that stood for 15 years.
Massillon hires Dobran
MASSILLON -- Mike Dobran, a graduate of Poland High, was hired as baseball coach at Massillon High School.
Dobran played baseball at both Wright State and at Hiram College.
He's served as baseball coach for two years at Akron Garfield and coached running backs at Massillon for three years.
Sharon namesBrian Hoover
SHARON, Pa. -- Brian Hoover of Sharon has been named to fill the vacant post of varsity basketball coach at Sharon High.
The school board voted 8-0 Monday to name him coach at a salary of $4,985 in a one-year contract.
Hoover has served as an assistant varsity coach at Sharon for the last two years.
Geneva to playLaSalle in football
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- LaSalle, a Division I-AA team, will play against Geneva's football team this fall.
Six of the final seven games will be against teams from the Mid-States Football Association.
Correction
Leetonia High's Sean Hulburt was omitted from the list of top track times in the area recently. Hulbert ran the 800 meters in 1 minute, 59.7 seconds, in the district meet at Lakeview.

Aeros lose 8-1
READING, Pa. -- Jeff Inglin had four hits and drove in six runs as the Reading Phillies beat Akron 8-1 Monday night in the Eastern League, ending the team's five-game losing streak to the Aeros.
Indians sign pick
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians have reached a contract agreement with first-round draft pick Michael Aubrey, a first baseman out of Tulane.
Terms were not disclosed Monday.
Aubrey, 21, the 11th pick overall in the draft, batted .420 with 18 homers and 79 RBI in 63 games this season as a junior.
Aubrey, from Shreveport, La., bats and throws left-handed. The Indians assigned him to the Lake County Captains.

Denver to hostAll-Star game
DENVER -- NBA Commissioner David Stern cited a more stable Denver Nuggets ownership and management situation in announcing that the team will host the 2005 All-Star game.
Baseball meeting
NEW YORK -- Baseball officials planned to meet separately Friday with groups in Washington and Northern Virginia that are interested in luring the Montreal Expos.
Last week, baseball general counsel Tom Ostertag, executive vice president for administration John McHale Jr. and chief financial officer Jonathan Mariner with the group in Portland, Ore.
All three areas are bidding for the Expos, but it is unclear whether the team will be moved for the 2004 season.
