* Speed, sound and style matter at the 2003 X-treme Sound Summer Nationals car competition at sites near Grove City, Pa. It'll kick off with Twilight Time Trial Drags at 9 p.m. at Grove City Airport, Pa. Route 208. Events will continue Saturday with U.S. Autosound Competition International preliminaries and a marketplace for audio and custom car vendors at Cooper's Lake, U.S. Route 422 near Interstate 79. * It's opening day for "Lewis & amp; Clark: Great Journey West," a 40-minute large-format film that will be shown in Carnegie Science Center Rangos Omnimax Theater, Pittsburgh. Learn about the sights they saw and the obstacles they overcame in their attempt to find a water path to the Pacific Ocean. * Move Over Broadway Productions will move outdoors for a special performance of its musical review "Tintypes" at 12:30 p.m. at Loghurst, the historic log home at 3967 Boardman-Canfield Road, Canfield. The "Tintypes" cast revisits late 19th- and early 20th-century history through song and dance. Admission will be $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and students and free for Loghurst members and all children ages 5 and younger. Seating will be on the lawn. Call (330) 533-4330 for details.
* Vocalist and Salem native Peter Proctor, whose voice has drawn comparisons to Johnny Mathis, will perform in "Peter Proctor -- The Singer Returns" at New Castle Playhouse Annex Theatre, 202 E. Long Ave., New Castle, Pa. The event will begin at 7 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception. Proctor's performance will be at 8 p.m. Proctor will sing Broadway and contemporary music and put a humorous twist on the Mathis song "Chances Are." Tickets are $13. Call (724) 657-9369.
* British rock band Radiohead, whose recently released sixth album, "Hail to the Thief," is drawing critical acclaim, will perform at 8 p.m. Aug. 21 at Blossom Music Center, Cuyahoga Falls. For tickets, which are $40 and $46.50, call Ticketmaster after 10 a.m.

* It's the final day for the Ashtabula Lighthouse Festival at Lake Shore Park, state Routes 11 and 531, where freighters arrive and depart. Speakers, authors, musicians and arts and crafts vendors will participate in the festival, which is designed to raise funds for lighthouse preservation. The park also offers a beach, playground, picnic area, duck pond and fishing. Festival hours are from noon to 9 (also from 11 to 10 Saturday).
NEXT WEEK
* Cleveland-area bands will play their own music as well as short sets in homage to influential musicians during the free, six-week "Summer in the City" concert series outside the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Cleveland. Shows will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays. First up will be the bands Perfect Guy, Viva Carmel and This Moment in Black History. Also this summer, from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays only, museum tickets are buy one, get one free.
* Make reservations now for dinner and brunch cruises on Nautical Nature, a fully enclosed pontoon boat at Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park, Portersville, Pa. A dinner cruise that will be catered by Fairground Market will be at 6 p.m. June 28. Cost is $19.25. A brunch cruise, which costs $11.25, will be at 1 p.m. June 29. Call (724) 368-9185. * Wooden speedboats will be docked at Hotel Conneaut for a Classic Antique Boat Show June 28 and 29 at Conneaut Lake Park, Conneaut Lake, Pa. Among the boats on exhibit will be Liberty II, a hydroplane speedboat that sank on Conneaut Lake in 1922; it was recovered in 1985 and has been restored. Liberty II will have a permanent home in the park's new Lakeland Museum, which also opens next weekend. Call (814) 382-5115 for information.
* Life was different when Ohio was one of the newest states in the union. The proof will be found at a Mountain Man Encampment, Pre-1840 Rendezvous and Craft Show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 28-29 in Beaver Creek State Park near East Liverpool. Archery and tomahawk- and knife-throwing will be demonstrated; Revolutionary War-era artillery will be on display; food will be cooked over an open fire; and herbalists will talk about medicinal herbs.
