AROUND THE HORN Monday's games

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Royals 9, Twins 8
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Raul Ibanez singled home Carlos Beltran in the ninth inning as Kansas City blew an eight-run lead before winning. Mike Sweeney homered and drove in five runs as the Royals took an 8-0 lead after six. The Twins scored two in the seventh, three in the eighth and then three in the ninth against closer Mike MacDougal (3-3) to tie the game. But Kansas City answered in the bottom half. Eddie Guardado (0-2) walked Carlos Beltran leading off the ninth, then his wild pitch put Beltran on second before Ibanez singled into right. Beltran barely slid safely under the tag after a throw from Dustan Mohr.
White Sox 4, Red Sox 2
CHICAGO -- Mark Buehrle (3-10) won for the first time in 13 starts and Joe Crede hit a three-run homer as Chicago capitalized on Boston's bullpen after Pedro Martinez left the game. The White Sox, held to one run in five innings against Martinez, broke through in a three-run sixth against Ryan Rupe (1-1). Martinez, making his second start since coming off the disabled list, left after 71 pitches. Rupe retired the first two batters in the sixth before walking Jose Valentin and giving up a single to Paul Konerko. Crede then connected for his sixth home run, giving the White Sox a 4-2 lead.
Mariners 6, Angels 3
SEATTLE -- John Olerud homered for his 2,000th career hit and Mike Cameron hit two home runs as Seattle came from behind to beat Anaheim. Olerud hit a 1-2 pitch into the right field stands for a two-run shot off Anaheim's John Lackey (4-6), to tie the score at 3 in the fourth inning. Olerud received a standing ovation from the crowd at Safeco Field and tipped his batting helmet. Joel Pineiro (6-5) allowed three runs in the first and nothing else in 72/3 innings. Arthur Rhodes got four outs for his second save.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Marlins 1, Mets 0
MIAMI -- Rookie Dontrelle Willis baffled the Mets, pitching a one-hitter and getting a home run by Ivan Rodriguez. Willis (6-1) allowed only a clean line-drive single to left by Ty Wigginton with one out in the fourth to win his fifth straight start. Willis struck out eight and walked one. Wigginton was the only batter to reach against Willis, also drawing a walk with two outs in the first. Rodriguez's homer in the fourth inning off Tom Glavine (5-7) gave the Marlins the only run they needed to win for the fifth time in seven games.
Cubs 4, Reds 3
CINCINNATI -- Moises Alou and Eric Karros hit consecutive solo homers in the sixth inning, and Chicago held on to beat Cincinnati. Matt Clement (5-6) gave up three runs in six innings and struck out nine, one shy of his season high. Three relievers combined to allow one hit the rest of the way, with Joe Borowski pitching the ninth for his 14th save in 16 chances. Alou and Karros homered off Jimmy Anderson (1-3) in the sixth to erase a 3-2 deficit and put the Cubs in line for their sixth victory in nine games.
Brewers 9, Cardinals 4
MILWAUKEE -- Keith Osik hit a solo homer and two-run double in a seven-run seventh inning as Milwaukee rallied past St. Louis. Osik led off the seventh with his first homer since Aug. 21, 2002, and capped the club's biggest inning this season with a two-run double down the third-base line. He equaled career highs with three hits and four RBIs. Curtis Leskanic (3-0) picked up the win with a laborious, 26-pitch scoreless inning of relief in which he walked two batters and struck out one. Cal Eldred (3-2) gave up four runs in one-third of an inning.
Padres 7, Rockies 5
DENVER -- Mark Loretta hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning off Jose Jimenez as San Diego rallied to beat Colorado. The Rockies scored four runs in the eighth inning to take a 5-4 lead, but Jimenez (0-3) couldn't hold it. He gave up a one-out single to Gary Matthews Jr., then walked Mark Kotsay. Loretta followed with his sixth homer of the year just over the wall in center to give San Diego consecutive wins for the first time since taking three straight April 23-25. Jay Witasick (1-1) got the final two outs of the eighth inning for the win. Rod Beck pitched the ninth for his second save.
