Men in car approach girls
NILES -- Police say two men tried to entice two girls into their car Saturday evening.
The two 13-year-olds were walking along Vienna Avenue, near Buckeye Beverage, at 8:30 p.m. when the men, in an early model Pontiac Grand Prix, pulled up to them and repeatedly asked them to get in the car and go for a ride.
The girls went home and called police with the vehicle's license plate number.
Car's stuck in pond
NILES -- A vehicle found in the middle of a pond apparently will stay there.
Someone reported to Weathersfield Township police around 7 p.m. Sunday that a car was in a pond behind SGS Steel.
Weathersfield alerted Niles police, but a tow truck was unable to reach the car.
How the car got there and other details were unknown this morning.
School board to meet
WARREN -- The city school board will meet in special session at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the board room of the administration building to discuss development of the district's master plan for classroom facilities.
Meeting rescheduled
VIENNA -- The Mathews Board of Education has rescheduled Wednesday's meeting for 6 p.m. Thursday.
The meeting will begin with an executive session and agenda items will be addressed immediately after.
The meeting will be in the board office, 4434-B Warren-Sharon Road.
Ohio EPA plans sessionon water-quality issues
LEAVITTSBURG -- The Ohio EPA will conduct a public information session on water-quality issues associated with school construction on North Leavitt Road that could have some impact on nearby wetlands.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. Wednesday in American Legion Post 699 at 201 S. Leavitt Road.
EPA representatives will discuss the proposed project and will answer questions and accept comment.
Meeting, public forum
WARREN -- Warren Safe Streets and Neighborhoods will conduct a meeting and public forum at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Packard Park Shelter House.
Schools' summer hours
CHAMPION -- Central Elementary School is open for summer hours from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday.
The office will be closed from Friday through Aug. 1 and will reopen Aug. 4.
The middle school summer hours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday. The office will be closed July 1-22 and reopen July 23 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The high school summer hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Thursday. The offices will reopen Aug. 4 during the same hours.
The assistant principal's office will be open Tuesdays for people who need assistance with transcripts and paying fees.
The offices are closed from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The school board office is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and closed from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Helping with petitions
HUBBARD --Township trustees are seeking volunteers to circulate petitions concerning the installation of sanitary sewers in the southwest section of the township -- south of state Route 304 and west of Jacobs Road.
Those interested are asked to attend a meeting at 7:30 p.m. June 26 in the township administration building.

ASHTABULA -- The Ashtabula County Child and Family Development Center is taking pre-enrollment information for the new Head Start program year.
There are openings throughout the county.
Benefits for the whole family include home visits, classroom socialization, field trips and monthly parent activities. A home visitor will come to each family and help them plan readiness activities using materials found in the home.
