Aeros defeat Sea Dogs, 7-2 in Eastern loop

AKRON (AP) -- Ron Wright drove in three runs and Derrick Van Dusen scattered six hits over eight innings as the Akron Aeros beat the Portland Sea Dogs 7-2 on Sunday in the Eastern League.
Portland got both runs in the third inning as John Nathans scored on a wild pitch by Van Dusen and Carlos Leon hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1. Van Dusen (6-4) also walked one and struck out one.
Wright's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third tied it, and Corey Smith scored on a wild pitch by Chris Elmore to put the Aeros up for good. Smith hit a run-scoring double in the fourth.
In the sixth, Grady Sizemore hit a home run, his eighth of the year, and Wright added a two-run homer, his seventh.
Elmore (1-1) gave up four runs on four hits and six walks over 31/3 innings.
Bowie 6, Erie 4
BOWIE, Md. -- Gary Cates hit a three-run double in the seventh inning to spoil Adam Pettyjohn's first start since 2001 and rally Bowie.
In his second appearance for Erie (31-37), Pettyjohn pitched five shutout innings, allowing two hits, striking out four and walking none.
Pettyjohn, 26, last started for the Detroit Tigers against the Minnesota Twins on Oct. 4, 2001.
The left-hander was expected to challenge for a spot in the Tigers' rotation in 2002, but he missed the entire season after his colon was removed following a severe case of ulcerative colitis.
Matt Walker homered in the sixth to give the SeaWolves a 4-3 lead.
