COLUMBIANA CORNER Browns fans see red at sight of Steelers fan

Given Columbiana County's proximity to Pittsburgh, some residents are Steelers fans.
Steelers-backing doesn't cut it, though, with county commissioners Jim Hoppel, Sean Logan and Gary Williams, all of whom root for the Browns. A county engineer's office employee learned firsthand about the commissioners' loyalties when he appeared at one of their recent meetings wearing a Steelers shirt.
"It takes a lot of nerve to come in here asking for something with that shirt on," quipped Hoppel.
Even fun has its limits
Explaining some of the events of the recent Tri-State Pottery Festival in East Liverpool, Pam Hoppel, East Liverpool Area Chamber of Commerce executive director, said she takes advantage of the event to do her grandmotherly duty and spoil her grandson. The 3-year-old rode all the rides appropriate for his age at least once, and rode one ride four times. By the time his parents arrived to take him home, he'd apparently had quite enough fun for one day. The boy looked at his parents and asked, "Can I go home now?"
Watching vs. doing
East Palestine City Councilwoman Becky Burns told fellow council members she was excitedly watching cable sports television to catch glimpses of her son, who was caddying during some of the preliminary events of the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic.
Councilman Scott Rauch was less enthusiastic, noting he'd rather play sports than watch them on television. "I don't know how people can watch golf on television for hours," he said. "Go out and play. Watching two hours of golf? That's like watching chess for a week -- or watching hair grow."
