OAKLAND Mulder stays perfect at home as A's trounce Expos

Ramon Hernandez had four RBIs in the 8-4 victory.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- The Athletics wasted little time welcoming the Montreal Expos to Oakland.
The A's scored two runs in the second and five in the third en route to an 8-4 victory Friday night.
Expos starter Tomo Ohka (4-7) lasted just 21/3 innings, giving up seven runs and six hits. He walked one and struck out two.
"I threw some balls up high and they hit them pretty good," Ohka said. "That cost me the game."
It's the third time this season he's failed to get out of the third inning.
"The worst thing is what happened to us tonight," Jose Vidro said. "We fell behind right away and to try and come back against a pitcher like that is tough."
Mark Mulder (9-4) allowed three runs on eight hits over seven innings with two walks and eight strikeouts.
After three consecutive road starts, including his shortest outing in two years, Mulder improved to 6-0 at the Coliseum.
"I didn't have any problems my last couple of starts, I just didn't pitch well," he said. "I made one too many mistakes over the plate for hits tonight but we scored some runs early and that was good enough."
"That's a real good pitcher," said Montreal's Ron Calloway. "When a pitcher's stuff is that good you start swinging at pitches out of the strike zone. "
Nice offense
Ramon Hernandez hit a three-run homer and tied a career-high with four RBIs. Eric Byrnes also homered.
Hernandez's eighth home run of the season, one more than he hit last year, highlighted the A's five-run third. Since hitting five solo homers, Hernandez has hit three straight with runners on.
"We're the kind of club who picks it up as the season goes along," said Hernandez. "Things are starting to go our way."
Jose Vidro and Orlando Cabrera hit home runs for the Expos, who lost their second straight following a six-game winning streak.
Ohka has allowed at least one homer in each of his last 10 starts.
"He didn't have the good pop on his fastball," Expos manager Frank Robinson said. "His location wasn't as good as the last time out, but he didn't get much help behind him either. It might have gone differently if we could have made some plays behind him."
Byrnes threw out Montreal's Henry Mateo at the plate in the fourth.
"It was one of those plays that I really didn't think he had a chance," A's manager Ken Macha said. "It's like when you're falling out of bounds and you throw up a shot, you know it's a bad shot but when it goes through you say nice going."
Notes
The Expos had won nine of their previous 10 games played on Friday the 13th dating to September 1991.
Montreal has lost five straight games started by left-handed pitchers.
Hernandez is hitting .305 at night and .206 in day games.
