East Liverpool nurses approve contract

EAST LIVERPOOL (AP) -- Nurses at East Liverpool City Hospital approved a contract Saturday, ending a two-week strike.
The East Liverpool Nurses Association's 178 members approved the contract by a 90-percent margin, union spokeswoman Michelle Prater said.
She did not have the vote totals Saturday afternoon. Nurses and other laid-off employees will be recalled according to departmental needs.
About 400 additional employees, including dietary, maintenance and housekeeping, have been laid off or had their hours reduced during the strike. The two sides were negotiating mandatory overtime, benefits and wages and reached a tentative contract agreement Friday.
