Area man is electrocuted working on equipment
BEAVER, Pa. -- A 41-year-old Lisbon man was electrocuted at 1:40 p.m. Friday while servicing equipment at the Mountain Spring Coal Co. in Greene Township, Beaver County, about 35 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
Christopher St. Clair was pronounced dead at the scene by a deputy county coroner, and his death appears to have been accidental, Pennsylvania State Police said.
The death is being investigated by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and state police.
Ham radio field day
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The public is invited when Lawrence County Amateur Radio Operators group hosts a 24-hour field day beginning at noon June 28.
Ham radio operators will be set up at Wendy's, 2590 W. State St., and the neighboring Sears Auto Center. The amateur-radio operators will make contacts around the world. Visitors will be able to speak on the radio and look at radio operating equipment. There will also be prizes.
Talk by crime witness
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The only living witness to one of Lawrence County's most sensational crimes will speak at 6:30 p.m. June 26 at the Lawrence County Historical Society, 408 N. Jefferson St. Leal Baldwin witnessed the killing of Pennsylvania State Police Officer Brady Paul.
Baldwin will talk about the crime, ensuing cross-country manhunt and eventual trial of Irene Schroeder and Glenn Dague, who received the death penalty in 1931. The program is free and open to the public. For details, call (724) 658-4022.
Weed & amp; Seed's meeting
FARRELL, Pa. -- Sharon/Farrell Weed & amp; Seed will hold its annual community meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Second Baptist Church, 1140 Spearman Ave.
The session is being held to update the community about the program and encourage resident participation and will include a summary of the 2003 revitalization plan. Refreshments will be served.
