Board awards pacts to build elementary
YOUNGSTOWN -- The city board of education has awarded contracts for the construction of the new Harding Elementary School.
A $4.1 million general trades contract was awarded to DeSalvo Construction Co. in Liberty.
Other awards went to Komar Plumbing of Boardman, for plumbing, $265,000; Western Reserve Mechanical Inc. of Mineral Ridge, heating, venting and air conditioning, $758,000; Tri-Area Electric Co. Inc., of Youngstown, electrical work, $698,000; and Fire Foe Corp. of Girard, fire protection, $84,000.
The project was re-bid after initial bids came in too high.
The rebid brought costs down by $600,000, said Brad Adams, senior project manager with Heery International Inc., the project's construction manager.
Adams said total project cost leaves a $218,000 contingency over what was budgeted.
Heery will take the bids to the state for approval later this month and construction will begin.
