The city's control board approved these contracts and other spending items Thursday:
Severance of $4,555 to the estate of Michael Hartzell, the police officer shot and killed in his patrol car April 29.
Severance of $3,202 for Anthony Cafaro, a police detective who retired May 1.
A contract to buy 10 portable radios for the fire department at $831 each from Clemente Communications.
An agreement with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and the Central Columbiana and Pennsylvania Railroad for upgrade or closure of several crossings. The estimated cost is $5,000.
Payment of $3,119 to K.T. Lyden Construction for emergency repair of a catch basin and pipe at Atkinson Avenue and Liberty Road.
Payment of $4,686 to K.T. Lyden Construction for emergency repair of a sewer main on Early Road.
Accepted a $50,819 grant from the Mahoning County Recycling Division to pave the area around the street department with asphalt that includes recycled rubber.
A $55,000 contract, paid with a grant, to pay three Mahoning County deputy sheriff's for litter enforcement.
A contract not to exceed $9,500 with NSI Corp. for a wireless computer network connection between city hall and the Wick building.
