School being built burns
BELOIT -- A four-alarm fire Friday afternoon caused an estimated $10,000 to $20,000 damage to the kindergarten-through-eighth-grade school under construction in the West Branch School District.
Fire Chief Scott Dean said workers using torches ignited the roof of a building that is part of a new elementary-high school complex.
Firefighters from Beloit, Sebring, Damascus and Homeworth were on the scene for about 2 1/2 hours.
Dean said workers told him the fire damage will cause only a short delay in the building process.
Motion seeks to endchild support for Colon
YOUNGSTOWN -- A lawyer has filed a motion asking that the mother of Jackie Colon no longer be made to pay child support for the girl, who is being held in the county juvenile justice center.
Colon, 16, has been deemed mentally incompetent to stand trial in the December 2000 death of a 3-month-old baby.
Authorities say she threw the infant out a second-floor window of her family's Roxbury Avenue home, then went outside and stabbed him several times.
Jackie's mother, Michele, has been paying court-ordered child support to help offset the cost of Jackie's care.
Atty. Mark Colucci said the mother should no longer be made to pay for Jackie's care, because the girl is considered a ward of the state.
4th house of womangets demolition order
WARREN -- The city's chief building official has ordered a fourth house owned by an East Market Street woman to be demolished.
Christopher Taneyhill said he left the demolition order in the mailbox of Suk Hu Hays, giving her 30 days to demolish the house at 1426 Union St. S.W.
Last month, Taneyhill ordered three of Hays' other houses to be demolished.
The basement walls at the Union Street house are caving in, Taneyhill said, adding he told the tenants -- a mother and two small children -- they have to leave the house. Hays owns more than 40 rental properties in the city. She has said if the city wants her houses to be demolished, the city should pay for it.

Murder charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force arrested 26-year-old Ceyanie Dubose of Norwood Avenue on Friday at his workplace downtown on a charge of aggravated murder.
Lt. Robin Lees said Dubose is charged with the November 2001 shooting death of Marcus Bradley, 18, of West Chalmers Avenue on the city's South Side.
Lees said new evidence developed by the Youngstown Police Department and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led to Dubose's indictment Thursday by a Mahoning County grand jury.
A second suspect also was secretly indicted.
