Rose festival planned
YOUNGSTOWN -- A rose festival will be from noon to 5 p.m. June 22 at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park. Sponsored by the Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens, the event will feature a judged rose show, miniature rose sale, rose arranging demonstration by Drs. Gary Barlow and Lewis Shupe and educational exhibits.
A Chinese auction will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and a public sale of exhibition roses will occur at 5 p.m. In conjunction with the festival, Mahoning Valley Rose Society will conduct a rose show from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Entries must be submitted between 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the D.D. and Velma Davis Education and Visitor Center and judging will follow. For information, call Pat Martinec at (330) 755-6348.
Also featured in the Davis Center at the gardens will be watercolor paintings, drawings and prints featuring plant forms and colors by 75 artists from 11 countries. The art exhibit, from Carnegie Mellon University, will be on display through July 13. The Davis Center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
