Awards and achievements
YOUNGSTOWN -- Brian Kolenich, administrator of Park Vista Retirement Community in Youngstown, has been appointed to the 2003 board of examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. He was appointed by Arden Bement, director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The award is the higest level of national recognition for performance excellence.YOUNGSTOWN -- Hanahan/Strollo & amp; Associates received a Golden Trowel Award from the International Masonry Institute. It received a significant achievement award for its design of the Youngstown Community School and D.D. & amp; Velma Davis Education & amp; Visitor's Center in Mill Creek Park. Ten projects in Ohio were honored for excellence in masonry design and construction.CANFIELD -- Casal's d & eacute; Spa & amp; Salon, which is owned by Thom Ciarniello, received several awards at the Mid-America Congress held by Fredric's Corp. The outstanding Earth month achievement award was given for the staff's walk-a-thon conducted in Mill Creek Park. The Earth and humanity award was given to Ciarniello for his support of environmental issues and community outreach programs such as Project Daymaker at the Mahoning Valley Rescue Mission. The concept longevity award was given for its 10th year in business as an Aveda concept salon. The salon also was named one of the top 200 fastest-growing salons by Salon Today magazine.
