NORTH LIMA -- By next summer, visitors should be able to use the new restrooms and kitchen facilities at the Woodworth Park pavilion.
Earlier this month, the Beaver Township parks department announced the township had received a $40,695 grant from the state Department of Natural Resources. The money is to be used to renovate and upgrade the pavilion and to pay architectural fees, explained Scott Conway, park board chairman.
"Upgrading the pavilion is something we've been wanting to do, and now we'll be able to," he said. "It's just one more step, a big step, toward doing the things we'd like to see done at the park."
Last month, the township announced receiving an $11,000 grant from Mahoning County. That money will be used for a new parking lot at the park.
State money
The township is also anticipating receiving a $150,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Public Works Clean Ohio Conservation Fund this year. If the grant is approved, it would go largely toward the purchase of 80 acres off state Route 165, just west of New Buffalo Road. The land, owned by Ohio Edison and just east of the Wildwood Lake recreation area, would be used for a nature preserve.
"If the township gets the grant for the nature preserve, that will be more than $200,000 we've received in grants this year," Conway said. "I think that's great. It's a great accomplishment."
Meanwhile, Conway said the township will begin accepting bids for the work at the park pavilion later this summer.
