Specialty Hospital to open new unit, change name

YOUNGSTOWN -- Specialty Hospital of Mahoning Valley is opening a new campus in Warren and is changing its name to Mahoning Valley Hospital.
The transitional hospital company has been operating out of Oak Hill Renaissance Place, which is the former South Side Hospital, in Youngstown since 1999. It has a 31-bed facility with 82 employees in Youngstown.
By September it will open a 14-bed satellite facility on the ninth floor of Trumbull Memorial Hospital. The new unit will employ 20 people.
Michael Senchak, company president, said the move is being made to better serve the health-care needs of Trumbull County residents.
He said the name is being shortened so it will be easier to identify the two campuses. The two facilities will be known as the Youngstown campus and Trumbull campus of Mahoning Valley Hospital.
The hospital treats medically complex patients who require extended hospitalization. It focuses on patients who have had strokes or who have respiratory ailments, complex wounds, kidney failure, post-surgical complications or heart disease.
