Hospital contracts withreplacement nurses
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Replacement nurses are standing by to step in for striking nurses at East Liverpool City Hospital. The hospital has contracted with U.S. Nursing Corp. of Denver to provide the workers, Tina Smith, hospital spokeswoman, said Wednesday. Whether the replacements begin work will depend largely on the outcome of talks scheduled Friday between the nurses and the hospital, Smith said.
The hospital is not disclosing how much it will pay the replacement nurses. It's unclear how many will be hired, Smith said. A spokeswoman for the Ohio Nurses Association criticized the hospital for proposing to bring in replacements.
About 177 nurses have been on strike since June 1.
