Ex-workers sue Rent-Way
ERIE, Pa. -- Rent-Way Inc. is accused of cutting corners by not paying workers for all their overtime work, according to a federal labor lawsuit recently filed by a group of former employees. An attorney for Rent-Way disputed the claim and said the company will fight the lawsuit.
U.S. begins criminal probeinto Freddie Mac practices
WASHINGTON -- Federal prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into possible misconduct at Freddie Mac, the home-mortgage giant whose accounting already was being probed by other U.S. authorities. The probe is being led by the U.S. attorney's office in Alexandria, Va. The McLean, Va.-based company said that it was not aware of the investigation but that it would cooperate.
Former Sprint executivegets $9M agreement
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Former Sprint Corp. chief executive William T. Esrey will receive more than $9 million in compensation, consulting fees and bonuses under a separation agreement with the telecommunications giant that was disclosed Wednesday.
Esrey, who left Sprint this year over a questionable tax shelter, will receive $270,833 in compensation each month for 18 months, another $270,833 in consulting fees each month for 12 months, and an $895,833 bonus, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
