LIBERTY Township receives $167,000 grant from state to combat flood woes
LIBERTY -- A 50-year-old flooding problem at Murray Hill Road and Fifth Avenue finally has a potential solution.
The township received a $167,000 grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission to solve periodic flooding that plagues the busy neighborhood crossing by installing storm sewers.
For the past year, engineers from MS Consultants of Youngstown have proposed various designs, each more costly than the previous plans.
The best and most cost-effective plan, recently formulated, requires crossing school district property and some undeveloped private property to lay storm-sewer pipe.
"Ninety-five percent of the easement will be contained in undeveloped property," said Tim Monroe, township road superintendent.
The school board will address the issue at its July 1 meeting.
School board matters
Meanwhile, the board accepted Tuesday the resignations of Margie Metzler, third-grade teacher; Charles Wright, music teacher; and Maria Belknap, Spanish teacher.
A budget of $17,858,704 for fiscal 2003 was approved along with a transfer of $25,075 to cover year-end expenditures in the athletic fund.
The board also approved a $443,918 contract with Weatherproofing Technologies to repair the roof at W.S. Guy Middle School. The work will be funded by the Ohio School Facilities Emergency Repair Grant Program.
