LIBERTY -- Police are asking for the public's help in locating 88-year-old Harold Rowbottom, who walked away Tuesday morning from his home at 3760 Logan Way. Rowbottom suffers from dementia, high blood pressure and a heart ailment and wears a catheter. He is described as white and wearing a red plaid shirt and dark sweat pants. He carries a cane. Anyone with information is asked to call police, (330) 759-1511.
Woman killed by tractor
KINSMAN -- The Trumbull County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of a 70-year-old woman who was run over by a tractor.
Officials said they believe Marjorie Savakis, who lived on Kinsman-Pymatuning Road, was riding on the tractor with her husband around 12:32 p.m. Tuesday when she fell off and slid under the tractor. Officials said the woman often rode the tractor with her husband. Sheriff's department reports were not completed. Coroner's office officials could not be reached.
Motorcyclist injured
YOUNGSTOWN -- Anthony J. Defrance of Mansell Drive, Liberty, was in stable condition today in St. Elizabeth Health Center after his 1990 Suzuki motorcycle crashed at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday at Gypsy Lane and Fifth Avenue.
Police said Defrance, no age given, had no motorcycle endorsement on his license. The motorcycle, which was heavily damaged, was towed and held for the accident investigation unit.
Lordstown schools official
LORDSTOWN -- The board of education expects to announce a new schools superintendent later this month.
The board met in executive session Tuesday to interview the two finalists for the position: Jim Rykaceski, superintendent of the Midview School District near Grafton, and Doug Shamp, principal at Northwestern High School near Smithville.
The board is expected to name the replacement for Ray Getz, who will retire in December, at its regular meeting June 25.
Tot threatens with knife
NILES -- The father of a 5-year-old city boy told police the boy's friend threatened him with a knife.
Reports said the 5-year-old was at the Emma Street home of his 9-year-old friend Monday when the older boy put his hand over the younger boy's mouth, held a knife to his stomach and told him if he ever told anyone he would kill him.
When police questioned the older boy and his father, both denied the episode. It is still under investigation.
Day care registration
GIRARD -- The St. Rose Sunny Days Child Care Center, 61 Main St. East S.E., is taking registration for all day preschool child care, school-age child care and nursery school for both summer and fall sessions.
During the summer. the center will provide a full day School-Age Camp Program with weekly field trips around town both by bus and walking.
The center also will provide its regular full day or nursery program for prechool age children during the summer.
The center's hours are 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for all-day child care. Nursery programs vary with days and time depending on the child's age.
The center accepts children 21/2 through 5 for nursery school and all day child care and ages 5 through 12 for school-age care. For more information, contact Mary Ellen at (330) 545-1490.
Assault arraignment
STRUTHERS -- Leewayne Rowe, 32, of McClure Street, was expected to be arraigned in municipal court on assault charges later today.
Rowe was arrested around 1 a.m. Tuesday in the attack of a 40-year-old Lowellville woman in front of a home on Lowellville Road.
Police reports say the woman told police she was walking along the road when Rowe asked her to return to his residence. When she refused, the woman told police, Rowe became enraged, tackled her and screamed threats at her. Then, she said, he dragged her along the sidewalk until police arrived.
The woman suffered minor injuries and was treated by paramedics and released on the scene.
