YOUNGSTOWN -- The fourth annual Greater Youngstown Area Soap Box Derby will be Saturday on Fifth Avenue beginning with the parade of drivers at 7:15 a.m. and continuing with racing at 8 a.m.
Jim Postlethwait, derby director, said the hope is to get all the racing finished Saturday, with Sunday as a rain day.
Postlethwait said there are 73 cars entered in four divisions: Metro Stock, 19; Suburban Stock, 19; Super Stock, 27; and Masters, 8. Also racing will be 18 veterans of the four previous races.
Fifth Avenue will be closed for racing from Arlington Street to Rayen Avenue.
Official race activities were to begin at 4 p.m. today with inspection of Suburban, Super and Masters division cars at the Wick Avenue parking deck.
On Friday, Metro division cars will be inspected and the track will be set up, Postlethwait said.
