Suspect eludes police
AUSTINTOWN -- Police are looking for a man who ran from them during a traffic stop early today in the parking lot of the Kmart store off South Raccoon Road.
The man, 22, of Bennington Avenue in Youngstown, had a suspended driver's license and an expired vehicle registration. He also was wanted on a warrant charging him with failing to appear in court in Liberty Township.
Police said they checked the registration around 3:45 a.m. An officer identified the driver through a computer picture. As police pulled behind the car, the man got out and ran south into the woods behind Kmart. They searched the area and could not find him.
Check forgery reported
STRUTHERS -- Police and bank officials are trying to determine who used a forged check to withdraw $94 from a 79-year-old city woman's checking account.
According to police reports, the woman received a statement from her bank in mid-April reflecting the withdrawal. The forged check was made out to a recipient in Sioux City, Iowa.
No explanation was given as to why the woman waited until this week to file a report.
Fire at Astro Shapes
STRUTHERS -- Firefighters extinguished a small fire in a paint booth at Astro Shapes Inc., 65 Main St., Monday evening.
Firefighters arrived on the scene at 8:46 p.m., five minutes after the alarm, and left a little more than an hour later after inspecting the site. There was no estimate of a loss.
Breaking and entering
STRUTHERS -- Police charged Robert Anthony Gabrelcik, 30, of Youngstown with breaking and entering after they reportedly found him trying to kick the glass out of a door to an office trailer belonging to Western Reserve Construction, 706 Youngstown-Poland Road, around 4 a.m. Tuesday.
An employee of a nearby business witnessed him and notified police.
Molding around the glass in the door was damaged.
