WARREN -- A man who pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter for the Jan. 29, 1987, death of Betty Bodo will spend at least three more years in prison.
The state parole board turned down Bruce C. Gross' request for parole Monday. The board said Gross will have another hearing in April 2006. Gross, who police said was a member of the motorcycle gang Brothers Regime, was sentenced to 10 to 25 years in prison.
910th members return
VIENNA -- Fourteen more Air Force reservists assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing's Security Forces Squadron are expected to return to the Youngstown Air Reserve Station at 9:30 p.m. today after 20 months on active duty, including nearly seven months at Prince Sultan Air Base, Saudi Arabia.
After this group returns home, only one reservist from the 910th Security Forces Squadron will remain deployed. The 910th Airlift Wing will still have about 270 members deployed to locations throughout the world, however.
The Security Forces Squadron provides force protection for the 910th's C-130 aircraft and personnel, and functions similarly to a municipal police department, working closely with local, county and state police agencies.
Marijuana indictments
CLEVELAND -- Several local men and a Michigan man have been indicted by a federal grand jury here on charges of conspiracy to distribute marijuana.
They are Victor McCain, 51, of Prospect Avenue Northwest, Warren; Richard Heckman, 45, and Edward Durica, 51, both of Houselcraft Road, Bristolville; and Richard Bowie, 47, of Owosso, Mich.
Heckman and McCain are additionally charged with interstate travel in aid of the marijuana conspiracy.
Heckman also is charged with two counts of money laundering in a supplemental indictment, which seeks forfeiture of property in Canada and Costa Rica.
The indictments follow a yearlong investigation by the Trumbull and Geauga county sheriff's departments, Michigan State Police and the DEA.
Zoning meetings canceled
MINERAL RIDGE -- The Wednesday meeting of the Weathersfield Zoning Commission and the Thursday meeting of the zoning board of appeals have both been canceled.

GIRARD -- The Girard Zoning Board of Appeals will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in council chambers.
Man accused in injury
NILES -- A city woman was treated at a local hospital after her boyfriend reportedly pushed her down and she hit her head.
The woman, who was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Warren, told police she and her boyfriend got into an argument around 10:15 p.m. Monday when he pushed her. The report said she was bleeding from her head.
The man, 47-year-old Richard Brown of Adrian Drive in Warren, was arrested on the misdemeanor charge and was expected to appear for arraignment this morning in Niles Municipal Court.
Illegal trash at business
NILES -- Police are hoping documents and mailing labels will tell them who illegally dumped garbage in the city.
A foreman from ITPS on Ann Avenue reported that someone dumped household garbage sometime Sunday at the business. Police took several pieces of paper containing names and a Youngstown address into evidence.
Anti-dumping effort
AUSTINTOWN -- Township officials will erect a locked gate on Bundy Road next week in an effort to end illegal dumping.
"It's really a mess down there," township Administrator Michael Dockry said.
Trustees voted to close the road Monday night at the request of the Mahoning and Trumbull county health boards.
There are no occupied structures on the short, dirt-and-gravel road off North Meridian Road at the Mahoning-Trumbull county line.
The road is barely wide enough for a car, and it's blocked near North Meridian by a fallen utility pole.
Chase leads to crash
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Liberty police officer in pursuit of a suspect in a series of car break-ins followed the suspect's vehicle into the city about 2 a.m. today and collided with a 1993 Dodge Dynasty at Lansdowne Boulevard and Kimmel Street, police said. No injuries were reported, and no one was cited.
