Assault arraignment
STRUTHERS -- Leewayne Rowe, 32, of McClure Street was expected to be arraigned in municipal court on assault charges later today.
Rowe was arrested around 1 a.m. Tuesday in the attack on a 40-year-old Lowellville woman in front of a home on Lowellville Road.
Police reports say the woman told police she was walking along the road when Rowe asked her to return to his residence. When she refused, Rowe became enraged, tackled her and screamed threats at her, the woman told police. Then, she said, he dragged her along the sidewalk until police arrived.
The woman suffered minor injuries and was treated by paramedics and released.
Theft on Mahoning Ave.
YOUNGSTOWN -- A man who ran out of Dairy Mart on Mahoning Avenue at 1:30 a.m. today with an 18-pack of beer, potato chips and chip dip was seen by police, who also heard the clerk yelling, reports show.
The man, later identified as Mark Peters, 33, of Bouquet Avenue, ran to a pickup truck on South Maryland Avenue, threw the items into the truck bed and drove off, police said.
Peters was apprehended on Price Road, where he had abandoned the truck and took off on foot, police said. He faces charges of theft, fictitious license plates and failure to comply.
Dog owner charged
STRUTHERS -- An unlicensed dog that bit a 13-year-old Charles Street boy remains in the custody of the Mahoning County dog warden pending the arraignment of its owner.
Police charged Denise M. Knepper, 30, of Park Avenue with allowing her dog to run at large after it chased a boy riding a bicycle, bit him on the leg and then charged a police car when officers attempted to contact the dog's owner around 5:30 Tuesday.
According to police reports, Knepper was not home when the attack occurred, so the dog warden was contacted to catch the dog.
In response to a note officers left at her home, Knepper told police that the dog had been vaccinated about two years ago, but she could not provide proof. She also said the 6-year-old German shepherd mix had never been licensed and registered.
The boy's mother declined medical treatment for the bite her son suffered on his calf.
Knepper will be arraigned Friday morning.
