Dilapidated buildings
NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township trustees agreed Tuesday to give three property owners 30 days to remove dilapidated buildings near Woodworth Park.
If they fail to comply, their names will be given to the Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office for further action.
Zoning inspector Michele Swope said the structures are unsound and unsafe. She said she sent a letter to each property owner last week, asking them to cooperate.
The township is considering having the structures demolished, then placing a lien on the property to cover that cost.
School hydrants OK'd
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Springfield Board of Education has agreed to allow the Springfield Township Fire Department to place two dry hydrants near the lake on the high school's land lab.
The board also agreed Tuesday to allow the fire department to place a gravel road on the property to provide the department with access to the lake.
The fire department will be able to use water from the lake in case there is a fire at the school complex.
The fire department is to pay for the work and cover all costs associated with maintaining the fire hydrants and access.
In other news, the school board accepted the resignation of high school teacher Jeff Brink, who has accepted a teaching position at Salem.
Last month the school board accepted Brink's resignation as a basketball coach. He accepted the varsity position at Salem.
