WNBA | Saturday's other games
Sun 65, Comets 58
UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Shannon Johnson scored 21 points and had eight assists to lead Connecticut to victory over Houston Comets.
The Comets were without two-time league MVP Sheryl Swoopes for most of the game after she sprained her right ankle in the closing minutes of the first half.
Nykesha Sales added 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals for Connecticut (3-2), which also beat the Comets 91-83 in Houston on May 30.
Tina Thompson led the Comets (3-4) with 25 points, including eight in a 15-2 spurt after Swoopes went out with 5:10 left in the first half.
Fever 86, Liberty 66
INDIANAPOLIS -- Tamika Catchings scored 24 points, Stephanie White had 15 and Natalie Williams had 11 for Indiana.
The Fever (2-1) dominated New York from the outset, forcing turnovers, getting easy points in the paint and consistent 3-point shooting, falling only one point shy of the team record for points.
Though the Liberty have never won a WNBA championship, they have four Eastern Conference titles and missed the playoffs just once, in 1998. The Fever talked during the pre-season about beating the Liberty (2-2) as the first step in proving they're Eastern Conference contenders.
Indiana got going early, with White and Nikki McCray opening the game with consecutive 3-point plays. Both drove down the lane and hit the ground hard, but quickly bounced up to energize their teammates and the crowd.
Niele Ivey hit a 3 -- her sixth straight to start the season -- capping an 11-2 run.
New York could not hold on to the ball, making bad passes and bad decisions that led to 14 first-half turnovers. The Liberty committed five turnovers in the final 5 1/2 minutes of the half as the Fever went on an 18-4 run.
Shock 74, Silver Stars 55
SAN ANTONIO -- Kendra Holland Corn scored 13 points and WNBA scoring leader Swin Cash added 12 for Detroit.
Deanna Nolan and Cheryl Ford each scored 11 points to help the Shock (2-1) move above the .500 mark for the first time in 86 games since June 2000.
Marie Ferdinand led the Silver Stars (2-5) with 16 points, and Gwen Jackson had 15 points and 14 rebounds.
