Sox close gap on Yankees in East
Boston rallied over the Brewers for its largest comeback win of the year.

MILWAUKEE -- Trot Nixon and Jason Varitek hit consecutive homers off Mike DeJean in the ninth inning Saturday as the Boston Red Sox rallied to beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 11-10.
Pinch-hitter Kevin Millar had a grand slam for the Red Sox, who lost starter Casey Fossum to a sore shoulder after one inning but came back from a pair of six-run deficits.
Boston won for only the fourth time in 12 games and moved within a half-game of the first-place New York Yankees in the AL East.
Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz and pinch-hitter Bill Mueller also homered as the Red Sox capped their biggest comeback win of the year. They have won 10 times when trailing after six innings, but had been 0-24 when behind after eight.
Nixon connected off DeJean (2-4) with one out in the ninth for his seventh homer of the season, tying the score at 10. Varitek followed with his eighth of the year, giving Boston its first lead of the game.
It was DeJean's fourth blown save in 18 chances.
Milwaukee had a 10-4 lead after five innings, but Millar's third career slam made it 10-9 in the seventh.
Brandon Lyon (2-2) worked two scoreless innings for the victory. Mike Timlin got three outs for his first save since July 19, 2001, with St. Louis.

Reds 9, Blue Jays 8
CINCINNATI -- Jason LaRue tied it with a three-run homer and then Sean Casey hit an RBI single as the Cincinnati Reds again rallied in the ninth inning.
Cincinnati trailed 8-5 going into the ninth, but came back against Cliff Politte (1-4).
Of the Reds' 30 wins this season, 16 have come in their last at-bats. And this was their eighth walkoff win -- eight different players have gotten those winning RBIs.
Aaron Boone opened the ninth with a single, Russell Branyan walked and LaRue homered. With one out, Rainer Olmedo singled, Adam Dunn walked and Casey won it with his single.
Chris Reitsma (5-2) got the victory.
Dunn hit his major league-leading 20th home run. Ken Griffey Jr. returned to the Reds' lineup after missing two games because of a virus, and put down his first sacrifice bunt since Sept. 22, 2001.
Carlos Delgado hit his AL-leading 19th home run and Vernon Wells homered, doubled and singled for the Blue Jays.

Expos 5, Rangers 4
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Brad Wilkerson took advantage of the short fences at Hiram Bithorn Stadium to homer twice Saturday night as the Montreal Expos dealt the Texas Rangers their eighth straight loss.
Jose Vidro also homered for Montreal, a legitimate shot off the advertisements beyond the right-field bleachers, as the Expos won their third straight game.
Claudio Vargas (3-2) pitched in and out of trouble all game, but was touched for four unearned runs in the second and nothing else in five innings.
Montreal's worn-down bullpen did the rest, finishing with four scoreless innings. Luis Ayala pitched the ninth for his first career save. Expos relievers have pitched 242/3 innings in five games this week.

Angels 9, Marlins 2
MIAMI -- Garret Anderson homered for the sixth time in five games and Aaron Sele won his second consecutive start.
Anderson, who had three home runs against Montreal on Wednesday, hit a three-run shot in the fourth inning off Tommy Phelps. It was Anderson's sixth home run on the Angels' road trip and his 13th of the year.
Sele (3-3) had his best performance of the season in his sixth start. He pitched seven innings -- his longest outing of the year -- and allowed two runs on four hits. He did not walk a batter and even singled in the seventh.
Anderson went 2-for-5 as Anaheim ended a two-game skid. He has 16 RBIs in 11 games on the 12-game trip.
Scott Spiezio added a two-run triple in the ninth, and Jeff DaVanon had a sacrifice fly.
Troy Percival, just off the disabled list, worked a hitless ninth.
Phelps (2-1) was tagged for five runs -- all in the fifth inning -- in his fourth start of the year. He allowed five runs on six hits for Florida, which lost for just the fifth time in 15 games.
Anderson's home run put the Angels up 3-0 in the fourth. Spiezio opened the inning with a single off Phelps, and Tim Salmon walked. Anderson lined the next pitch over the fence in right, and the Angels added two more runs in the inning.
Benji Gil reached on a one-out single, stole second and scored on Jose Molina's double. Molina came home on Adam Kennedy's single to center, making it 5-0.
Marlins manager Jack McKeon was ejected in the fifth by first base umpire Gary Cederstrom. McKeon argued that Alex Gonzalez, who singled, should have been awarded second base, thinking that Spiezio interfered at first.
