CARSON, Calif. -- Carlos Ruiz scored twice in the second half as the MLS champion Los Angeles Galaxy beat the Colorado Rapids 2-0 on Saturday in their Home Depot Center debut.

Kevin Hartman had one save in each half, both on shots by Mark Chung, for his first shutout of the season.

Ruiz converted a penalty kick during the first minute of stoppage time for his fifth goal of the season. Los Angeles was awarded the penalty kick after referee Kevin Stott ruled that Pablo Mastroeni fouled Ruiz in the penalty area.
