ELLSWORTH -- Postal employees will cancel 37-cent stamps with a special mark commemorating the Ohio bicentennial from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Ellsworth Fire Station.
Stamp collectors and the general public are invited to the event, which is sponsored by American Legion Post 76. Post members will be on hand to sell American, Ohio and POW-MIA flags and to accept old U.S. flags for destruction later.
On sale during the event will be Old Glory and Ohio Statehood postage stamps, according to Rick Short, Ellsworth postmaster. Cookies and punch will be served.
The fire station is on state Route 45, just north of U.S. Route 224.

Salem car break-ins
SALEM -- A car parked on the 400 block of North Howard Avenue was broken into over the weekend, police said this morning.
Two speakers and an amplifier were stolen from the vehicle sometime late Friday or early Saturday.
No value for the items was listed in a police report.
In a separate crime, someone smashed the window in a car parked on the 2200 block of Lexington Avenue, police said. The vandalism was reported Saturday morning.
Cause of death pending
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Authorities said they will have to await the results of toxicology studies to determine the cause of death of a Sharon man found lying alongside Lynnwood Drive. The man has been identified as Mark A. McNulty, 40, of Lafayette Avenue, Sharon.
He was found around 10:30 a.m. Friday, and police said there were no obvious signs of injury. An autopsy failed to immediately determine the cause of death.
Police said McNulty was last seen by his family Wednesday but wasn't reported missing until Friday, after his body had already been found.
U.S. Route 62 resurfacing
MERCER, Pa. -- I.A. Construction Co. of Franklin will be paid $1,786,600 to resurface U.S. Route 62 from Zahniser Road in Lackawannock Township east to U.S. Route 19 in Mercer borough.
The job, financed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, is to begin this week and be completed by mid-November, PennDOT officials said.
Traffic will be maintained during construction.
New hospital gift shop
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Jameson Junior Guild opened a gift shop at Jameson South, formerly St. Francis Hospital. The shop is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located inside the main entrance of the hospital.
The new shop features jewelry, clothing, nightwear, stuffed animals and snacks. Proceeds are used for guild projects, including the purchase of new equipment for the health system.
Sharon Flag Day ceremony
SHARON, Pa. -- The city will have its annual Flag Day ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Friday on the front steps of the municipal building at 155 W. Connelly Blvd.
The ceremony will be followed by an open luncheon in the building lobby.
Restaurant break-in
SANDY LAKE, Pa. -- State police said this morning someone used a brick to smash a window to get into the Lakeway Restaurant on Billy Boyd Road in New Vernon Township.
About 20 cartons of cigarettes and some other items with a total value of about $1,500 were stolen, police said.
The burglary occurred between 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 p.m. Sunday, police said.
