YOUNGSTOWN -- Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 505 Parkcliff Ave., will celebrate its annual Juneteenth Festival June 18-22. Festivities will include local music acts, a talent display, poetry readings and instructional seminars. Street vendors will be selling black American arts, crafts and clothing.
Refreshments will be provided and admission is free. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery. From its Galveston, Texas, origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as Emancipation Day has spread across the United States. Juneteenth commemorates black American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement.
