Boy takes dump truck
CAMPBELL -- Police charged a 15-year-old Youngstown boy with criminal damaging, criminal trespass, theft, failure to comply with the order of a police officer and driving without a license after they spotted him driving a dump truck towing a trailer on Regent Street about 8 p.m. Saturday.
A resident reported seeing the boy driving recklessly. When police tried to pull him over, he sped up, drove through a stop sign and failed to negotiate a turn, driving onto the front lawn of St. Michael Byzantine Church. The boy attempted to drive through the lawn, but the vehicle became stuck.
He was being held in the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center until a court date is set.
The boy told police that he was walking by Iron City Wood Products, 3125 Wilson Ave., and saw the truck inside the gate. He walked up to it and saw the keys inside and decided to take it to his father.
The truck had not been reported stolen, but the business owner told police he would pursue charges.
