STATE BASEBALL C.Catholic posts win in Div. II



Marc Nofer led Canton to a 6-2 victory over Steubenville.
COLUMBUS -- Marc Nofer pitched a complete game, drove in two runs and scored as the Canton Central Catholic High baseball team beat Steubenville 6-2 in a Division II state semifinal on Friday.
Nofer gave up two runs, one of them earned, and six hits in seven innings at Ohio State's Bill Davis Stadium. He walked four and struck out three. He hit RBI singles in the second and third innings, scoring on a double-play groundout in the second.
Jimmy Lindesmith hit a run-scoring double for Canton (32-1) in the fourth.
Keith Zrinyi had an RBI triple in the second for Steubenville (23-8).
Trevor Kalinowski gave up five runs on eight hits and had two strikeouts for the loss. He left in the fourth after Mike Affolter's leadoff triple.

Cols. Hamilton Twp. 2, 8 innings
COLUMBUS -- James Smith doubled twice and allowed one earned run in eight innings for Cincinnati Purcell Marian in the other Div. II semifinal.
The Cavaliers (21-10) got the winning run in the bottom of the eighth. Smith started the inning with a double and was replaced by pinch runner Matt Barney. Barney advanced to third on an infield single and scored on a wild pitch.
Nate Chau took the loss for the Rangers (26-7) despite allowing two earned runs and two walks in 72/3 innings. Chau struck out 10 and homered in the sixth inning.
Gahanna Cols. Academy 7, Gnadenhutten Indian Valley 4
COLUMBUS -- Jimmy Murray hit a two-run homer for Gahanna Columbus Academy in a Div. III semifinal.
After the Braves (25-8) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on an RBI single by Greg Reichman, the Vikings (28-4) responded with four runs in the bottom of the third. They added three in the fourth, when David Quick hit an RBI triple and Murray homered.
Bryan Morosky allowed three runs on four hits and seven walks to get the win. Derek Cummings allowed four runs, two earned, on three hits and five walks in 21/3 innings for the loss.
