South Carolina edges North Carolina in first game of super regionals

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Landon Powell homered and drove in three runs, and Michael Campbell hit a go-ahead two-run single as South Carolina beat North Carolina 5-4 in the opening game of the super regionals Friday.
Gamecocks ace David Marchbanks (15-2) allowed four runs in the first two innings, but held the Tar Heels to two hits over the next four innings. Chris Hernandez got his second save of the season after allowing two hits in three innings.
With South Carolina (43-20) trailing 4-3 in the fourth, Kevin Melillo and Nick Gardiner led off with singles. Jon Coutlangus sacrificed the runners over, and Campbell followed with a two-run single.
The teams meet again Saturday in the best-of-three series, and South Carolina could clinch its second straight College World Series berth with a victory.
Wes Moyer went 2-for-4 with a homer for North Carolina (42-22).
