NATIONAL LEAGUE Rain postpones Pirates, Braves
ATLANTA (AP) -- Heavy rain forced a postponement of Friday night's game between the Atlanta Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates.
It was the second rainout of the year and third in the history of Turner Field, which didn't lose a game to inclement weather in its first five seasons.
A May 7 game against the Colorado Rockies was postponed by rain, forcing the teams to play a doubleheader the following day.
With Mike Hampton bothered by a sore groin, the Braves decided to make up this rainout as part of a doubleheader on Sept. 5.
Shane Reynolds (4-1), who was scheduled to start for the Braves, will go today. Pittsburgh's Kip Wells (2-2) will be bumped back a day as well.
The game never started. A line of showers covered most of north Georgia, and the stormy weather was expected to last into Saturday.
After a wait of 48 minutes, the game was called.
