Body found on banks of river identified as New Castle man
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A body found on the banks of the Beaver River has been identified as Jason Sims, the New Castle man who disappeared in March while being chased by police.
Sims' body was discovered Wednesday evening by two children playing along the bank of the Beaver River, near Beaver Falls.
An autopsy was performed, and Sims was identified through dental records, police said.
Sims, 25, of Blaine Street, disappeared March 18 after he jumped into the Shenango River as police were chasing him. The Shenango River eventually becomes the Beaver River.
Police said Sims had been spotted on a porch at his mother's apartment and ran when he saw officers pulling up in a car. He was wanted on a parole violation. He jumped a chain-link fence and went into the river.
Sims got to the middle of the river, then struggled to stay above water, police said. Authorities estimated the water temperature was about 40 degrees.
New Castle firefighters manned a net stretching across the river for several days after Sims disappeared as part of efforts to locate his body.
