MERCER COUNTY Man gets jail in arson at home



The court also passed sentence in a number of unrelated cases.
MERCER, Pa. -- A man who set fire to his parents' home has been sentenced to six months to two years in jail and one to three years' probation.
Antuane Cornelius, 22, of North Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage, was sentenced Friday by Judge Francis Fornelli of Mercer County Common Pleas Court on charges of arson, a misdemeanor.
According to court documents, Cornelius started a fire in the basement of his parents' home on North Buhl Farm Drive last Oct. 23, then failed to extinguish it or alert anyone that it was burning. The fire caused $1,000 in damage.
Several others were also sentenced Friday:
UHoward Cullen, 34, of Hadley Road, Greenville, was sentenced to one to four years in prison for receiving stolen property, a felony. He was convicted of possessing seven stolen rifles and shotguns valued at $2,370 in August 1997.
UTimothy Hassan, 22, of Malleable Street, Sharon, was sentenced to three months to two years in jail for passing bad checks, a misdemeanor. He was then ordered paroled to an inpatient program. Last December, Hassan passed two bad checks totaling $1,300 at Wengler's Jewelers in Sharon, according to court documents.
UJason Heckathorne, 19, of the Lawrence County Jail, New Castle, was sentenced to 11 1/2 to 23 months in jail for felony burglary. He was given credit for 199 days already served. Heckathorne was charged with burglarizing two Logan Avenue residences in Sharon last Nov. 20, stealing $30 in quarters and two prescription pill bottles.
UMary Jamieson, 60, of Connelly Boulevard, Masury, Ohio, was placed on three years' probation for felony retail theft. She was charged with stealing $75 worth of miscellaneous items from Wal-Mart in Hermitage in May 2002.
