MERCER COUNTY Judge gives Ohio man probation in robbery of convenience store



The judge also sentenced nine others.
MERCER, PA. -- An Ohio man was placed on probation Thursday for robbing a Sharon convenience store last fall.
Donovan Zec, 31, of Burghill, Ohio, was placed on seven years' probation by Mercer County Common Pleas Court Judge Thomas Dobson for felony robbery.
Zec entered the Sheetz store on East State Street on Sept. 9 and demanded $250 while keeping his hand under his shirt, appearing to be holding a weapon. He ordered all the employees to go behind the counter and threatened to shoot them.
Other sentencings
Several others were also sentenced Thursday:
UDennis Wilson, 41, of Kidds Mill Road, Transfer, was sentenced to six to 18 months for simple assault. On June 12, 2002, he beat a man with a 3-foot-long ax handle, damaging the man's kneecap, dislocating his thumb and inflicting cuts that required stitches. The same day, he also broke a window out of a car, resulting in $450 damage. He was ordered to pay restitution to the owner. Both assaults took place at the Riverside Campground on East Crestview Drive, Delaware Township.
UMichael Crawford, 21, of the Mercer County Jail, was sentenced to 30 months to 10 years in prison for aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. According to court documents, he struck a woman across the face with a large aluminum flashlight in the 900 block of Hamilton Avenue, Farrell, causing injuries that required hospital treatment. He also was sentenced to one to two years, to be served concurrently, for simple assault for punching a woman at a Federal Street, Farrell address, knocking her down, and choking her Sept. 25. He was found guilty of the charges after an April trial.
UJoshua Burns, 20, of Leslie Street, Sharon, was sentenced to 113 days to 18 months in jail for simple assault to be followed by six months' probation for criminal conspiracy. He was also ordered to perform 100 hours' community service. He was given credit for 113 days already served. Last June 21, Burns and another man beat a man on Stambaugh Avenue, Sharon, until the victim lost consciousness. The man suffered bruised ribs and multiple contusions. Burns also threatened to kill the victim.
UNathaniel Crawford, 26, of East Connelly Boulevard, Sharon, was sentenced to 204 days to 18 months in jail for possession of firearms and making terroristic threats, then given 204 days' credit for time served and paroled. He was placed on 18 months' probation for making terroristic threats and was also ordered to perform 100 hours of community service. According to court documents, Crawford threatened Oct. 14 to kill a man at a South Irvine Avenue address in Sharon and was found in possession of a semiautomatic pistol without a license.
UWilliam Cypher, 38, of Forker Boulevard, Sharon, was sentenced to three to 14 months in jail for resisting arrest and nine to 24 months for simple assault. The terms will be served concurrently. Cypher was also ordered to serve one year's probation consecutive to the jail term for retail theft. According to court records, last Sept. 10, Cypher stole three DVD movies and a CD burner valued at $150 or more from Wal-Mart, Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, then bit an employee who tried to detain him. On Jan. 9, Cypher was apprehended for driving during suspension on state Route 60 in Shenango Township, after first fleeing officers, then defying police officers and wrestling a police dog when they tried to apprehend him.
UMarcia Fisher, 49, of Orchard Street, Sharon, was placed on 15 months' probation for simple assault. On Aug. 20, she cut a man in the face and neck with a utility knife, causing him to bleed so heavily that he required stitches and surgery. The attack occurred at a Russell Street, Sharon, address.
UCleston Forrester, 28, of Orange Drive, Hermitage, was sentenced to six to 18 months in jail for delivery of cocaine. According to court records, on Aug. 22, 2000, Forrester sold cocaine and marijuana to a confidential informant for $300 at a Spruce Avenue, Sharon, residence.
* Richard Hinkson, 35, of Baldwin Avenue, Sharon, was placed on 18 months' probation for theft by unlawful taking for removing $200 worth of miscellaneous items from a Sherman Avenue, Sharon, residence.
* Amber Mattocks was placed on one year's probation and ordered to pay $1,840 restitution to Grove City Federal Credit Union, Grove City, for passing two checks in May 2002, knowing they would not be honored.
