Cardinals 13, Blue Jays 5
ST. LOUIS -- Woody Williams took a no-hitter into the eighth inning in a game the Blue Jays played under protest. Williams held Toronto hitless until Orlando Hudson singled with one out in the eighth. He also hit a bases-loaded triple and drove in four runs. The Blue Jays lodged their protest in the second inning after an umpire's reversal on a fly ball cost them a triple play. With Eduardo Perez on second base and Tino Martinez on first, Mike Matheny hit a shallow fly ball and left fielder Frank Catalanotto tried for a shoestring grab. Third-base umpire Kerwin Danley ruled it was a catch, and the Blue Jays trapped Perez and Martinez off base. Cardinals manager Tony La Russa sprinted onto the field to argue, and after the umpires huddled for several minutes, they ruled it a base hit and the St. Louis runners re-emerged from the dugout, loading the bases.
Mariners 5, Phillies 4
PHILADELPHIA -- Mike Cameron's three-run homer off Jose Mesa in the ninth inning led Seattle to its ninth straight victory. The Mariners escaped a bases-loaded jam when Kazuhiro Sasaki struck out Jim Thome and retired Bobby Abreu on a fly ball.
Cubs 8, Devil Rays 1
CHICAGO -- Sammy Sosa hit an RBI single in the first inning and also reached on an error during Chicago's seven-run third. Matt Clement (3-6) got his first win since April 18, losing a shutout bid when Aubrey Huff hit a run-scoring double in the sixth.
Yankees 10, Reds 2
CINCINNATI -- Hideki Matsui responded to a batting-order demotion with a two-run homer and three doubles. Jose Contreras (3-1) escaped two bases-loaded threats as he remained perfect in two starts. He gave up five hits in seven innings, including Jason LaRue's homer in the second. Matsui's long homer completed a five-run third inning off Danny Graves (3-5). He doubled each of his next three times up, finishing 4-for-5 with three RBIs.
Braves 8, Rangers 4
ATLANTA -- Javy Lopez hit a tie-breaking homer in the seventh inning. Gary Sheffield also homered for the Braves, who extended Texas' longest losing streak of the season to six games.
Padres 5, Tigers 1
SAN DIEGO -- Keith Lockhart hit a go-ahead homer in the sixth inning as San Diego avoided a three-game sweep. Adam Eaton (2-4) won for the first time in six starts, striking out six and holding the Tigers to one run and four hits in seven innings.
Marlins 2, Athletics 0
MIAMI -- Rookie Dontrelle Willis pitched seven innings against the team he grew up rooting for, outdueling Oakland's Ted Lilly. Willis (4-1), an Oakland native, gave up five hits. He struck out four and walked three. Lilly (3-4) allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings.
Astros 11, Orioles 1
HOUSTON -- Roy Oswalt struck out a season-high 11 and Brian Hunter drove in four runs with four hits as Houston completed a three-game sweep. Hunter matched his career highs in hits and RBIs. Morgan Ensberg homered and drove in four runs.
Expos 8, Angels 7, 14 innings
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Ron Calloway, filling in for the injured Vladimir Guerrero, hit a game-ending, two-run single with two outs in the 14th. Calloway also hit a three-run homer as the Expos won for just the second time in 10 games.
White Sox 3, Diamondbacks 210 innings
PHOENIX -- Frank Thomas homered and doubled home the go-ahead run in the 10th inning as Chicago snapped a five-game losing streak. Tony Graffanino had a one-out, broken-bat single in the 10th, and Thomas followed with a drive down the left-field line off Scott Service (0-2), scoring Graffanino from first. Brian Daubach had a solo homer for the White Sox.
Dodgers 5, Royals 2
LOS ANGELES -- Kevin Brown won his seventh straight decision. Brown (8-1) allowed five hits and two runs before being lifted for a pinch-hitter immediately after Cesar Izturis' single in the seventh broke a 2-2 tie. Fred McGriff hit a two-out, two-run homer in the eighth. It was McGriff's 10th homer of the season and the 488th of his career.
Twins 5, Giants 2
SAN FRANCISCO -- Kyle Lohse shut down San Francisco for eight innings and Cristian Guzman had three hits for Minnesota. Lohse (5-4) retired the first 11 hitters he faced until Rich Aurilia singled with two outs in the fourth.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Brewers 8, Mets 7Brewers 5, Mets 3
NEW YORK -- Ben Sheets pitched seven innings in the second game. Sheets (6-4 ) retired the first nine batters he faced and went more than seven innings for the third consecutive start. Richie Sexson and Eric Young each homered and doubled in the first game. Milwaukee knocked out Mets starter Steve Trachsel (4-3) after a season-low four innings. Trachsel tied a career worst by giving up four homers. Matt Kinney (4-4) allowed five runs -- four earned -- and seven hits in six innings. Mike DeJean pitched the ninth for his 13th save.The Mets' Tom Glavine (5-6) left with an injured elbow after allowing five runs, four hits and five walks in one-plus innings.
