Annika Sorenstam, the world's top-ranked female golfer, has committed to play in next week's Giant Eagle LPGA Classic. The commitment was confirmed today by her agent, Mark Steinberg of IMG. "Everyone involved with the event ... are obviously thrilled to have Annika here," said Giant Eagle LPGA Classic executive director Eddie Thomas in a prepared statement. Sorenstam last participated in the 1998 Giant Eagle LPGA Classic, finishing tied for ninth place. After making history as the first female to play in a PGA Tour event in more than 58 years, the Colonial, Sorenstam returned to the LPGA Tour last week and won the Kellogg-Keebler Classic. The tournament will be played June 13-15 at Squaw Creek Country Club in Vienna.
