YOUNGSTOWN -- The man charged in a hit-and-run accident that left a 12-year-old bicyclist slightly injured will be back in court next week.
Judge Robert Milich set bond at $15,000 and a preliminary hearing date of June 11 for William C. Pietz, 25, of East Delason Avenue.
Pietz is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving under suspension and domestic violence.
Police reports say he was driving a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis about 5:15 p.m. Monday when it struck a boy who rode his bike into its path on Williamson Avenue on the city's South Side.
The boy was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
A witness told police Pietz stopped briefly at the scene before fleeing.
At the time, he also was wanted by police on a warrant for domestic violence.
Robbery suspects
GIRARD -- Two Mahoning County men will appear next Wednesday in Girard Municipal Court on robbery charges.
Liberty police have charged Dwayne E. Scott, 37, of Unity Road, New Springfield, with robbery, and Anthony J. DeAngelis, 33, of Grimm Heights Road, Struthers, faces charges of complicity to robbery and fleeing and eluding.
Liberty police accuse Scott of robbing Smoker's Friend and Cigarette Express on Belmont Avenue of cigarettes Saturday and fleeing in a truck driven by DeAngelis.
The two were caught in Austintown after the truck got stuck off New Road.
Scott is being held in the Trumbull County jail, unable to post a $25,000 bond. DeAngelis was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.
Bucci's hearing delayed
YOUNGSTOWN -- Robert T. Bucci, 57, won't be back in Ohio as soon as U.S. District Court officials in Cleveland were expecting.
An extradition hearing was postponed until June 27 for the former Canfield resident, who fled to Cuba 41/2 years ago to avoid prosecution on charges of conspiracy to defraud the IRS, false tax returns and tax evasion, according to federal law enforcement officials.
Bucci is being held in a Miami jail after his arrest in Panama City, Fla., on May 18. Bond jumping is expected to be added to his list of charges.
Bucci's brother, Anthony, was a witness for the prosecution during James A. Traficant's racketeering trial. Robert Bucci also had a chance to strike a deal with prosecutors for a lighter sentence in exchange for testifying against Traficant, but he opted instead to flee.
Appointed to health board
WARREN -- Dr. Pat DiTommaso, a retired osteopath from Liberty, was appointed Tuesday to serve on the Trumbull County Board of Health, replacing Dr. Douglas Burchette, who resigned from the board for health reasons. Dr. DiTommaso was the only applicant for the seat, which must be filled by a licensed physician.
Springfield police officers
NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield Township trustees will meet in executive session at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to interview police officer candidates. The closed-door session will be at the township administration building, 3475 E. South Range Road.
Child escapes injury
SHARON, Pa. -- Police said 2-year-old Jasmine Maybeeescaped injury when she knocked a car out of gear and it drifted down a hill, hitting a fence.
The child's mother, Lori A. Hardesty, of State Line Road, Masury, was loading items into the car on a hill on Delaware Street around 7 p.m. Monday and Jasmine was inside the vehicle.
Jasmine apparently knocked the car into neutral and it rolled down the hill, crossed Sharpsville Avenue and struck a heavy metal fence at Winner Steel Services.
Hermitage siren tests
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Hermitage Fire Department will conduct its monthly test of all the city's weather warning sirens between 9 and 10 a.m. Thursday. Residents should ignore the sirens during that period.
Same results in primary
WARREN -- The Democratic primary race for Hubbard 1st Ward council remains unchanged. David Kelly paid $20 to have ballots recounted by machine Tuesday. He lost by eight votes to Bonnie Viele.
