Choices should be practical and pretty
Cloth table covers and napkins are finally coming into their own, and homemakers will have to choose what kind of detailing will be the most practical. Typical of the fine details now available are the following:
UJacquard: A fabric with a patterned weave, named after the French inventor who designed the loom it is made on.
UDamask: A durable, lustrous, reversible fabric (usually silk or linen) with a patterned weave.
UOpenwork: Ornamental embroidered openings in fabric, often formed by pulling threads.
UCutwork: Ornamental openwork embroidery in which part of the fabric has been cut away.
UHemstich: An ornamental stitch used at the hem made by pulling out several parallel threads and tying the cross threads together into small, even bunches.
UTatting: Fine lace edging made by looping and knotting thread around a small hand-held shuttle.
