WILMINGTON -- Programs offer children the chance to investigate the forces needed for flight through scientific experiments and demonstrations. Wilmington Children's Museum.

KILL DEVIL HILLS -- "Women and Flight," a Smithsonian traveling exhibition features photographs and profiles of contemporary female aviators by Carolyn J. Russo, photographer at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. Wright Brothers National Memorial.
JUNE 14-15
KILL DEVIL HILLS -- 25th Annual Wright Kite Festival with stunt kite demos, games and contests. Wright Brothers National Memorial.
JUNE 21-24
MANTEO -- 27th Annual Air Race Classic, all-women's cross-country air race for stock airplanes. The race starts this year in Pratt, Kan., and ends at Wright Brothers National Memorial before the pilots land at Dare County Regional Airport.

KILL DEVIL HILLS-- Ultralight pilots scheduled to leave June 22 from the Wright brothers' hometown of Dayton, Ohio, are expected to land in Kitty Hawk. Wright Brothers National Memorial.
JULY 3
CARY -- Terrance Mann and five other Broadway entertainers perform rock songs, including some that celebrate flight. The event finale features an original song composed for the First Flight Centennial called "Free to Fly." Amphitheatre at Regency Park.
MANTEO -- Scheduled end of Transcontinental Glider Race, a 10-leg gliding race with about 50 competitors that begins June 17 in Los Angeles. Dare County Airport/Wright Brothers National Memorial Airstrip.

KILL DEVIL HILLS -- Re/Max Balloon Celebration race ends after starting in Dayton, Ohio, three days earlier. Winner is first balloon to reach Wright Brothers National Memorial or the one closest to the memorial. Wright Brothers National Memorial.

WILMINGTON -- "Flight Through New Art" exhibit. The Louise Wells Cameron Art Museum.
JULY 26
MANTEO -- Experimental Aircraft Association's Air Venture Cup begins with pilots of 75 experimental aircraft. They will stop in Dayton, Ohio, before the race ends in Oshkosh, Wisc. Dare County Regional Airport.

RALEIGH -- "North Carolina Aviation Pioneers" exhibit. North Carolina Museum of History.
AUG. 19
KILL DEVIL HILLS -- National Aviation Day (Orville Wright's Birthday). Wright Brothers National Memorial.
