Bosox decide to peddle Chen; lefty thought he was doing OK

The Boston Red Sox have designated left-handed pitcher Bruce Chen for assignment.
Chen already had been cut by Houston and Cincinnati this year.
The Red Sox have 10 days to trade, waive or release him.
Chen went 0-1 with a 5.11 ERA in five games, including two starts, for Boston.
"I was shocked," Chen said. "I thought I did what they wanted me to do since I got here. I did all three things they wanted me to do -- start, long relief and face lefties. I thought I was doing OK, but I understand."
The Red Sox claimed Chen off waivers from Houston on May 7. Manager Grady Little said the team didn't want 13 pitchers.
"We felt like we kept the people we have the best chance to win with," Little said.
Angels
Closer Troy Percival (hip) reported no problems after throwing 46 pitches over 10 minutes in his second bullpen session in two days.
"Everything is better than OK," manager Mike Scioscia said. "It was great for Troy."
Percival is scheduled to throw in a simulated game Wednesday and could be activated from the 15-day disabled list as soon as this weekend.
