3 high schools win awards for seat-belt use



Three high schools have won awards in the seat-belt campaign sponsored by Mahoning Safe Communities and the Mahoning County District Board of Health.
South Range High School won for the highest seat-belt use overall, with final use at 94.4 percent. It is the third consecutive year the school has won the competition.
Awards for the largest increase in use went to Jackson-Milton and Springfield high schools. Use at Jackson-Milton High School rose from 47.7 percent to 90.1 percent. Use at Springfield rose from 40.3 percent to 83.7 percent.
Eight Mahoning County high schools competed in the campaign, doing various activities to encourage use at school and in their communities.
The campaign raised seat-belt use in participating schools from an overall 56.7 percent to 70 percent.
