COLUMBUS -- Clint Mathis converted a penalty kick in the 64th minute to extend New York's unbeaten streak to seven games as the MetroStars and Columbus Crew played to a 1-1 draw Saturday night.
The MetroStars were awarded the penalty kick after goalkeeper Jon Busch tripped Amado Guevara in the box while the two chased Guevara's rebound near the endline.
The goal stretched Mathis' goal streak to a franchise record five games.
Neither team had a quality chance to score in overtime.
New York (5-1-2), who are first in the Eastern Conference, had won their last five and are unbeaten on the road, with a win and tie coming at Crew Stadium.
Columbus (3-3-3) snapped a two-game losing skid, but since starting the season with a franchise best 2-0-1 record they are 1-3-2.

Cunningham, who has had a point in five straight games, couldn't convert on two clean breakaways and two close range chances. He finished with 10 shots, five on goal.
Howard, who is rumored to be nearing a deal to play with Manchester United of England's Premier League, may have played his last game for New York. He finished with seven saves, including stopping Cunningham on a breakaways in the 41st and 55th minutes and on his close range shot in the 77th.
