NCAA BASEBALL East Carolina topples No. 3 Georgia Tech in regional play, 10-3

ATLANTA -- Darryl Norwood hit a grand slam in the seventh inning and East Carolina eliminated Georgia Tech 10-3, the national No. 3 seed, in the NCAA baseball tournament Saturday.
Norwood's 14th homer capped a five-run inning for the Pirates (34-26-1). Glenn Tucker (5-4) allowed six hits and struck out six in 8 1-3 relief innings.
The Yellow Jackets (44-18) lost two in a row at home in the regionals after reaching the College World Series last year for the first time since 1994.
South Carolina 7, Stetson 2
ATLANTA -- Landon Powell had a career-high four hits, including a home run and two doubles, and Steven Tolleson drove in two runs as South Carolina beat Stetson.
David Marchbanks (14-2) went the distance and gave up two runs on 11 hits for the Gamecocks (41-20).
Rutgers 8, Jacksonville 5
TALLAHASSEE -- Vinny Esposito and Jeff Frazier each drove in three runs as Rutgers rallied to eliminate Jacksonville.
The Scarlet Knights (37-21) blew a 4-0 lead as Jacksonville (32-30) had scored twice in the fifth and three times in the sixth. But Frazier hit a run-scoring sacrifice fly and Esposito hit a two-run homer as Rutgers took control with a four-run seventh.
Florida 8, Bethune Cookman 6
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Stephen Barton hit a three-run, go-ahead homer in the sixth inning and Florida eliminated Bethune-Cookman.
With Florida (35-20-1) trailing by two, Barton squared to bunt on the first four pitches, but swung at the 3-1 pitch and hit his fifth home run of the season. Mario Garza added a two-run homer in the seventh as the Gators snapped a three-game postseason losing streak at Mark Light Field.
Sebastien Boucher hit his first home run of the season for the Wildcats (30-28).

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- J.D. Cockroft threw the first one-hitter in Miami's postseason history, and Gaby Sanchez drove in the only run on a groundout as Miami beat Florida Atlantic.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Cole Bruce hit a tiebreaking RBI single and Matt Farrington had a two-run triple as Houston scored three runs in the eighth inning and eliminated Oral Roberts.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Marc Maddox had two hits and three RBIs in Southern Mississippi's nine-run first inning as the Golden Eagles cruised past Murray State in an elimination game.
Clemson 7, Princeton 6
AUBURN, Ala. -- Steve Pyzik's RBI single in the 10th inning and Brad McCann's big defensive play lifted Clemson past Princeton in an elimination game.
Missouri 13, Middle Tennessee St. 7
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Jayce Tingler had three hits and two RBIs and Missouri got its first NCAA Tournament win since 1991 with a victory over Middle Tennessee State in an elimination game.

HOUSTON -- Stephen Head pitched a three-hitter and scored two runs as Mississippi eliminated McNeese State.
Rice 10, Wichita St. 1
HOUSTON -- Chris Kolkhorst hit a go-ahead three-run homer and had four RBIs as Rice cruised past Wichita State.
NC-Wilmington 12, Northeastern 6
BATON ROUGE, La. -- Matt Wright hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning as North Carolina-Wilmington beat Northeastern in an elimination game.
E. Michigan 9, Coastal Carolina 8
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Eastern Michigan blew a seven-run lead in the eighth inning, but Brad Hrovat hit an RBI single for the go-ahead run as the Eagles eliminated Coastal Carolina.
UNLV 22, Cent. Connecticut St. 3
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Eric Nielsen went 4-for-5 to tie UNLV's playoff record for hits, and Stephen Ghutzman had four RBIs as UNLV routed Central Connecticut State in an elimination game.

STANFORD, Calif. -- Mike McGirr scattered nine hits and Adam Tidball hit a three-run homer as Richmond eliminated Illinois-Chicago.

WILSON, N.C. -- Brad Josey threw a seven-hitter, and Todd Buchanan hit a home run and drove in three runs as Western Carolina eliminated Le Moyne.
